know.crpg.id is a free English encyclopedia of Indonesian law and regulation, maintained by the Center for Regulation, Policy and Governance (CRPG). It is also the knowledge base of CRPG's research on water, environment and natural resources governance since 2012. This page tells research agents, and the people who build them, how to use it well.

What the articles are

Each article explains one subject: a regulation, a court decision, a bill, a concept or a field of law. Statements about what the law says are cited to the primary text. An article is an explanation: it is not the official text of any instrument and it is not legal advice. For the wording of a provision, follow the article's link to the official source. Articles are machine-drafted from the sources they cite, and each says so in a line at its head.

Identifiers

  • Know ID (for example K208): the permanent identifier of a subject. It never changes and is never reused; page paths are fixed when an article is created.
  • Work URI (for example /akn/id/act/inpres/2024/1): the Akoma Ntoso-style identifier of an instrument, the natural key across CRPG's databases.
  • RegVault id (instrument articles only): CRPG's internal database id of the record that holds the instrument's text. One instrument may be held under several ids; the line names one. A court decision's identifier is its case number.

The Identifiers line at the foot of each article lists them.

How to cite

  • For what the law says: cite the official instrument and its article (Pasal), from the source the article links first.
  • For this encyclopedia's explanation: cite the article title, its Know ID, its URL and the date you read it.
  • For CRPG's analysis or news: cite the crpg.id post by title, URL and date; if it carries a correction note, cite the corrected version.

Dates and status

An article describes the law as of its last update, shown on the page. Instruments are amended and revoked: check the official source for anything later before relying on a status.

Source tiers

Footnotes carry a tier: [P] primary document, [E] external publication, [V] CRPG research note, [I] interview evidence. See how sources are cited.

What is public

Every English page is free to read, with no sign-up. Some Indonesian material (a higher-education regulation library) is for subscribers, and team archives are internal.

Finding new material

Recent developments lists the newest articles and changes; the A–Z index lists every English article.

Complete, structured access

The pages here explain the law. For the full text of Indonesian regulations, retrieval by Pasal and search, as structured JSON in one call instead of crawling pages, CRPG runs a read-only API: see the API documentation and terms. Access is available by arrangement: contact@crpg.id.
